Always thinking on the art education and enjoyment of the community

Earth and Water, “our planet, our life” Project

Earth and Water,” our planet, our life” project, based on the theme “Our Environment” has been to emphasize our individual and community responsibility for consciously doing our part in protecting our sensitive environment.  Art takes an important role in achieving this goal.

To this effect, we have been seeking participation from artists, writers, poets, photographers, and other individuals who would be willing to artistically express their concerns and ideas for a better future.

Since education begin at an early age and experiences are accumulated through time, this project has been conceptualized to involve participants of all ages, from elementary school youngsters with their rich imaginations to senior citizens with their wisdom and life long experiences. Large sources of participants such as schools will be approached seeking their involvement and participation.

In regard to the artwork, each participant will be provided with a cube, made from non toxic floating material so they can express their concerns and ideas for a better future and create his/her artistic statement. The floating cubes will then be exhibited on lakes, pools or other confine water bodies for the enjoyment and reflection of all member of the community.

The idea is to use art as the communicating tool to express and spread a message related to environment and nature issues, such as; water conservation, wildlife, global climate, endangered species, pollution, recycling and more.

A Special opening ceremony will be held, which includes the release of the cubes by the Artists in tone with special music called “ Earth & Water” that has been composed for this purpose.

The objective is to educate our community, by means of artistic expressions represented on the above described media, aiming to create awareness and stimulate individual and group assessments of critical social and environmental issues affecting our quality of life and that of our future generations.

We believe that the “Earth and Water, our planet, our life” project, is a source of an enormous artistic, educational, and environmental value. This idea has already been the focus of attention of the TV news media and prestigious organizations that have supported and directly participated in some of these Art events that have proven to be successful in achieving the intended objectives.

Since the beginning in 2007 until this date more than one million people from schools and community in general have received the message enjoying and learning while becoming part of this educational experience. We are proud to say that our main goal of creating awareness on how to protect our environment has surpassed our expectations.

The project is presented in a way that makes it fun for the students and community to participate, understand and learn how important the above mentioned issues are.
Combining art and nature helps create a strong link between the two and this can open many doors of communication. Either by participating in the events or by visiting the exhibitions we can achieve our goals.

We have done this project also at schools also in a different way. Working with children is very rewarding since they involved the whole family. It is like a positive cultural chain reaction. This project has influenced many students in a very positive way. They truly understand the importance of the message and they get inspired by the art presentations.
We visited several schools with our Piag Museum on wheels in which we bring the art cubes that already floated in one of our many exhibitions.
One of the schools “South Dade Middle” had the initiative of working in a class assignment that included research on different environmental issues.

Epcot- Disney-Orlando Fl. - March 27- Mayo 1, 2009

Different environmental issues were reviewed, discussed and explained , such as; Global warming, Water pollution, Recycling, Coral reef , Endangered species, etc. Creating awareness of the importance of protecting our planet. The final presentation at South Dade Middle School resulted in 300 cubes made by the students in their art class. The cubes were presented by each of the students on Earth Day outside in the school’s garden. Many important government officials were invited to the ceremony and they were very impressed by the results of this project. A non-profit organization America's oldest, largest, and most influential grassroots environmental organization “Sierra Club” gave a green award to the school for this project.

After the ceremony the whole school (1,250 students plus staff) visited our Piag Museum on wheels in which we had an exhibition related to the environment from different artist local and international. Our guest speaker explained the importance of and ways which each person can contribute to keeping earth healthy.

The Community has enjoyed and benefited too. We have had positive feedback from artists and guest who have made changes in their life to conserve water , electricity and have decided to recycle all in an effort to protect our planet. This is our responsibility and the responsibility of all.
